Compound Fractions: Example

Rule 27:
A compound fraction is sometimes called a mixed number.

tex2html_wrap_inline54 , tex2html_wrap_inline56 , and tex2html_wrap_inline58 are examples of compound fractions.

Example:
Calculate tex2html_wrap_inline60 . Express your answer as a compound number.

Answer:
tex2html_wrap_inline62 .
Solution:
tex2html_wrap_inline41

Comment:
You can check your answer with your calculator. Use your calculator to calculate the problem. Your answer will be in decimals. Now use your calculator to convert tex2html_wrap_inline62 to a decimal. If the results are the same, your answer is correct.
