Rule 1:To multiply identical bases, add the exponents.

Example 4: Simplify tex2html_wrap_inline37

Answer: tex2html_wrap_inline39 or tex2html_wrap_inline41

Solution: Multiplication must be completed before you perform any addition. Therefore find tex2html_wrap_inline43 first.

tex2html_wrap_inline43 can be simplified to tex2html_wrap_inline47.

The problem

displaymath49 can now be written tex2html_wrap_inline39.
